All things not always within the reach of SMEs

With the war machine of Italian rooms of furniture and design, Ubifrance, the business promotion agency abroad and Safi - owner of Maison & object - decided to unite their forces to better export HABs style. After a first test in Moscow in the year France-Russia, this example of "public-private partnership" unpublished, should be extended to New York next year.

The principle: it brings together in a prestigious setting - in this case the armoury in Moscow to two not Kremlin - a selection of eclectic SMEs in decoration, artisans of art (marble, bronze, gilders...), decorators OEM but also heavy bedding and furniture such as Cauval Industries as well as of antiquarians, such as Steinitz. Objective: implement report with Russian clients, architects, decorators working for hotels and wealthy individuals are gathered in one place a range of representative bids of this Art of living to the French that they promote (the mark also was filed by Ubifrance in beginning of the year). Cost of the operation: EUR 1.5 million, of which three quarters financed by exhibitors.

Safi, owner of the Salon Maison & object, is in charge of their selection (170 total) and provides design - black and chic - as well as mounting of stands. For the Director General of Maison & object, Etienne Cochet, the purpose of this ephemeral delocalization is not of "suck" the sessions of January and September of his own show but rather to bring more Russian visitors to Paris. "We attract on average 1,000 buyers to the assignment of January, if the 1,500 to 2011, this will prove that the Moscow event has fulfilled its mission," notes, while saying ready to repeat the experience with Ubifrance.

A regret expressed by some exhibitors, feel very "great century" that emerges from the whole and the low presence of contemporary style which the standard-bearers counted on the fingers of a hand (Elitis, Steiner...). "It is true that this is what they expect in priority, but the Russians have changed a lot, they travel and a little more modernity would have been welcome," said Gilles Silberman, vice-PDG of Cauval Industries. The Group has a long-standing practice of the Russian market where he made 3.5 million euros of turnover. Its teams are mobilized on the great matter of the moment: the JO of Sochi in 2014 which will require the construction of 14,000 rooms.

This almost flat and with more 4,500 visitors professionals and individuals identified, the operation is considered successful by Christophe Lecourtier, Executive Director of Ubifrance. The Agency then loads of after-sales service: "monitoring contacts, role of"go between"and Council or even of translation of contracts", said. All things not always within the reach of SMEs.

Replay of styles

Particularly appreciated exhibitors, the collective dimension of the operation and the mixture of trades. "The fact of collecting antiques and artisans facilitates the task of our architects and decorators customers who find everything in one place", observes Christine Duval perch, Executive Director of Moissonnier. The Bresse SMEs already makes 70 of its export sales through his "replay" colorful and cheerful styles Louis XV or Empire. It is mainly of custom-made parts that it sold in Russia, as this huge table of baroque inspiration of 4 m in length to the dacha of a Russian grandee.

If the "plateau" at the armoury, was more the category of ultraprivilégiés clients, the Russian middle class, they recover shyly to eat after two very difficult years. "The worst is over", said Leonid Essipovitch, the patron of Skol, a chain of decoration. The sign that distributes seven years fabrics and wallpapers of the French brand Elitis, opened five stores in Moscow. In addition to St. Petersburg, franchisees are present in the major cities, Yekaterinburg, Perm, Rostov... whose rapid development is based on the boom of energy and raw materials. The rich Muscovites attend Tsum, mini grand store, cheap or Harvey Nichols, style to taste posted for niche brands or the Concept Store Podium (much more connected than the revamped Goumier, same old). The area around the Russian capital also see flourish "shopping resorts": real enclaves privileged and secure combining commercial luxury residential real estate and "malls".
