SFR prepares its offensive for long months

SFR again on the offensive in the Internet at high speed. The second France Internet access provider yesterday presented its new "box", the new Box Evolution. The first change is first rate: customers choose for the new Box Evolution, manufactured by Sagem and nor Netgem, will pay each month 5 euros more than others to take advantage of the "triple play" (Internet, television and telephone), i.e. 34,90 per month, against 29.90 euros for others. Price amounts to 39.90 euros for a subscription to the fiber. SFR therefore passed the psychological from the EUR 30 bar, seen as a reference by the market since it was launched by Free in 2003. But for this price, subscribers are entitled to several innovations. First, this "box" is the smallest of the market. Then, it uses 30 of energy less than older versions. Finally, the interface for viewing audiovisual programmes is greatly simplified and the STB - manufactured by Cisco - comes with a remote control using radio waves, not the infrared technology, which allows "zapper" without being from the decoder. Its hard disk to store 250 gigabytes of data.

SFR prepares its offensive for long months. Of course, its purpose is to widen the gap with its prosecutors and including Free. In two years, SFR has recruited more than new subscribers than its competitors, but on the first nine months of 2010, this is no longer the case. It is Bouygues Telecom which now has the wind in its sails. Not to mention that Orange has embarked on the "quadruple play" (Internet, television, fixed and mobile telephone) this summer. SFR therefore had to react, so Apple and Google is preparing to launch their own "box" for television.

Increase the average invoice

Beyond that, the purpose of the new Box Evolution it also increase the average bill for its subscribers. Certainly, SFR refutes the idea that it gives the top departure of an increase in the price of the France Internet arguing that offer 29.90 euros per month will be marketed: Frank Esser, the pattern of SFR, explains that the operator wants to keep "two lines in parallel." "He is to leave the choice to customers." Officially, therefore, the new offering is a premium offer. But SFR in ADSL communication will now focus on the new Box Evolution and therefore on the tariff of 34,90 euro per month. "Apple communicates on the iPhone 4, even if it continues to sell the previous generation iPhone", it is argued in the operator.

Strong of their 4.77 million subscribers at the end of September ADSL, SFR leaders feel the wind turned and they can afford, as with any market mature, differentiate the offers according to the portfolio of clients. "The objective is that the nine Box Evolution team 50 of households opting for an offer of"triple play"in SFR", said Frank Cadoret, public commercial Director of the group, yesterday. As SFR sell 1 million and 1.2 million subscriptions "triple play" next year, the operator hopes that it will end the year 2011 with 500,000 to 600,000 new Box installed Evolution. Or, on a full year, additional sales of EUR 36 million. The success of the offer will naturally depend on the attitude of the competitors. Free prepares to unveil, him too, its new Freebox, by the end of the year. The price of 35 euros will become the new "standard" of the market, as operators hope Probably not. Not only because, in any event, access to Internet providers will pass on the increase of VAT on the "triple play", expected early 2011.
